Agility is the ultimate game for you and your dog. It is also one of the most exciting canine sports for spectators. In agility, a dog demonstrates its agile nature and versatility by following cues from the handler through a timed obstacle course. The course has jumps, tunnels, weave poles, and other obstacles. Agility strengthens the bond between dogs and handlers, it is extremely fun, and it provides vigorous exercise for both! (AKC - Agility Overview) Because agility is a team sport it requires training for both the dog and the handler! As a result, the early classes focus on the building blocks for future activities. Some equipment is used to assist in developing skills.
All dogs coming into the Agility program require basic manners. You should also be able to recall your dog from a small to moderate distraction.
Please see the Obedience Page for complete details.
OBEDIENCE CLASSES: C.D.T.A.'s Obedience training program is designed for pet owners who wish to have a well behaved dog. Training provides a way of establishing a system of communication and a solid working relationship between you and your dog. Through training, the dog learns what you expect when a command is given. This relationship establishes you as the leader of the pack and with consistent work, trust and love will grow. Your dog becomes a well behaved companion who is secure in his place beside you.

Then you might want to consider this class! Using what was learned in the Basic Obedience Class, you and your dog will be introduced to some of the exercises that are used in beginning obedience competitions and learn the fun Rally fundamentals.
With a keen sense of smell, 100,000 times stronger than humans, dogs are often used to find lost people and animals, drugs, avalanche and disaster victims, and even to detect cancer. AKC Tracking is a canine sport that demonstrates a dog's natural ability to recognize and follow a scent and is the foundation of canine search and rescue work. Unlike obedience and agility trials, where dogs respond to the owner's commands, in tracking a dog is completely in charge, for only he knows how to use his nose to find and follow the track. (from AKC - A Beginners Guide for Tracking)
Please see the Tracking page for contact information.
Though similar to tracking, where the dog uses its nose to follow the scent of a person's movements, this sport demonstrates a dog's natural ability to recognize and find specific scents, much like the drug or bomb sniffing dogs do.
Nose Work is perfect for any dog, all ages, fair-weather or foul-weather, firm or infirm. Nose Work is designed to encourage your dog's natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise. It is a wonderful means to let your dog have fun, build confidence, and burn lots of mental and physical energy.
