| Agility: PLEASE: Contact us to see if space is available in the class of your choice. Agility is the ultimate game for you and your dog. It is also one of the most exciting canine sports for spectators. In agility, a dog demonstrates its agile nature and versatility by following cues from the handler through a timed obstacle course. The course has jumps, tunnels, weave poles, and other obstacles. Agility strengthens the bond between dogs and handlers, it is extremely fun, and it provides vigorous exercise for both! (AKC - Agility Overview) Flyer for class Class begins January 19, 2012 for all offered levels. Next set of classes will start in mid-March, 2012.

Obedience:
-
How Exciting! CDTA is now teaching a class to prepare dog and handler teams for the AKC Beginner Novice Optional Titling Class - see flyer.
Then you might want to consider this class! The Beginner Novice optional titling class has many of the same requirements as the Novice Competition Obedience title but allows more flexibility on the part of the handler and dog. Heeling on leash, Figure of Eight, Sit for Exam, Sit Stay, and Recall are the parts of this test. More information on the class can be found on the AKC web site beginning on page 43. It will give you exposure to the "ring" environment, "judges", and the pace of the required exercises. BASIC OBEDIENCE CLASSES: C.D.T.A.'s Obedience training program is designed for pet owners who wish to have a well behaved dog. Training provides a way of establishing a system of communication and a solid working relationship between you and your dog. Through training, the dog learns what you expect when a command is given. This relationship establishes you as the leader of the pack and with consistent work, trust and love will grow. Your dog becomes a well behaved companion who is secure in his place beside you. Flyer for class. Classes begin on January 24, 2012. For further information call (360) 393-7097. Next set of classes begins in April, 2012.

Tracking:
With a keen sense of smell - 100,000 times stronger than humans - dogs are often used to find lost people and animals, drugs, avalanche and disaster victims, and even to detect cancer. AKC Tracking is a canine sport that demonstrates a dog's natural ability to recognize and follow a scent and is the foundation of canine search and rescue work. Unlike obedience and agility trials, where dogs respond to the owner's commands, in tracking a dog is completely in charge, for only he knows how to use his nose to find and follow the track. (from AKC - A Beginners Guide for Tracking) Please see the Tracking page for contact information. |

K9 Nose Work Though similar to tracking, where the dog uses its nose to follow the scent of a person's movements, this sport demonstrates a dog's natural ability to recognize and find specific scents, much like the drug or bomb sniffing dogs do. K9 Nose Work is perfect for any dog, all ages, fair-weather or foul-weather, firm or infirm. K9 Nose Work is designed to encourage your dog's natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise. It is a wonderful means for letting your dog have fun, build confidence, and burn lots of mental and physical energy. Please see the K9 Nose Work page for details or contact Alecia. |
